About Me
Who is this chick anyway? Everything you want to know about me, but are afraid to ask.
1) I've wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. Even as a child I wrote stories and poems, but didn't get serious about it until college. I majored in Journalism and unofficially minored in Photography.
2) I fell in love with photography in my junior year of college. I love traditional b&w photography as well as experimental stuff: polaroid transfers, infrared, double exposures, self-portraiture. I have my own darkroom and process all my own film and prints. My photos have been exhibited in 4 shows, published in many magazines and literary journals, and I used to teach photography classes at a local college. It's my other passion in life. For more info and to see my portfolio, check out the Photography section of this website.
3) In high school, I was fascinated with Psychology and it became my first major in college (before I discovered Journalism). I used to check out tons of books from the library on various psychological subjects and read and read and read. It was during that time that I taught myself how to analyze handwriting. It was so much fun.
4) I love forensics, crime shows, thrillers, murder mysteries....two of my favorite TV shows are Bones and CSI (and its spin offs). I also enjoy the Temperance Brennan novels by Kathy Reichs (the inspiration for the show Bones). One of these days, I'd like to write a murder mystery.
5) I'm a semi-professional Tarot card reader. My first deck ever was a mini deck (Rider Waite, for those of you in the know) and I still carry it aound with me to this day. I was 16 when I first got it.
6) My birthday is March 27th, but I was due on April 12th, my grandmother's birthday. She, too, was a writer and a poet. She passed away when I was 11. I miss her terribly.
7) I taught myself web design 11 years ago, and this site is the 12th or 13th incarnation of my first website on Geocities (go ahead and laugh, but it was free). I used to call it "an exposed soul" which was my Mom's suggestion.
8) I love pool. I also enjoy bowling, although I suck at it. One of these days...
9) I love foreign languages and used to speak French fluently (I really miss it now). My first husband was Czech, and I tried to learn his language, which was a challenge. I also tried to learn Romani and incorporated it into the novel I was writing at the time. I also love creating fictional languages and have created 4: Kail (based on Czech and Romani and a bit of French), Tallosa (based on Italian and Portugese), Rahlian (based on French and Czech), and Reka (based on Latin).
10) I wrote and finished my first novel ever in November 2003 for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). It was called "The Sacrifice" and it was about a vampire who possesses a lonely stripper. One of these days, I'd like to rewrite and expand it. It's a pretty solid story.
11) I've written poetry since I was 11. I don't rhyme. Instead, I write free verse, although I enjoy writing sestinas as well. My poetry has been published in various literary magazines. I've written a chapbook, Life as a Moving Target, and am in the process of trying to get it published. To see some of my poems, check out the Poetry section.
12) To date, I've finished 3 novels and two novellas. I'm seeking represntation for Pirouette, a dark fantasy. Check out my Works in Progress page for more information.
13) I'm a die-hard heavy metal chick. I especially like 80s metal, as well as symphonic metal, hard rock, and some classic rock. Some alternative. My favorite band is Queensryche, and always will be. Their music inspires me so much. One of my novellas is based on one of their songs, "Take Hold of the Flame." I just recently discovered Nightwish, and symphonic metal, and I love it.
14) I have a soft spot for 1968 Mustangs. My dad restored one when I was 14 and I fell in love.
15) I'm very superstitous about numbers, especially when starting something new. I began the first major edit of my main work-in-progress (Pirouette) on January 1st of this year, hoping it would give me good luck. My wedding date, 6/27/09, happened to be the day my husband proposed 2 years ago, AND contained all my lucky numbers.
Is that enough? Want to learn more? Drop me a line.
