Works-in-progress

Pirouette

Genre: Dark fantasy

Status: 3rd draft

Synopsis: Alisia Duval is the exiled Faerie Princess living in New Orleans. She pretends to be human, dancing in a ballet troupe, which is her passion, and also helping the dead cross over, which is her life's work. She has powerful magic, called the Death Dance, that she must keep hidden at all times.

Until the Rajan comes for her.

Alisia is forced to return to Faerie to marry her sworn enemy, the vampire King, Lucien Vayelos. When they meet for the first time, they don't get along. In fact, they downright loathe each other. Their marriage is volatile at best, but there's one hell of an attraction underneath the angry words and defense mechanisms. There's something there that Alisia hasn't felt in centuries, and it's intriguing to her. As they take on the task of ruling the race together, they find themselves falling in love.

But that's not all. Alisia, by virtue of her magic, is also placed at the very center of destiny. She's the one to destroy Lucien's insane father, Raelan, who was cursed and is killing every single Fae alive. But, he finds Alisia first, and bad things happen, things out of nightmares. Things she can hardly remember, but he's ensnared her so completely that all she knows is him and his touch. Which poses a serious problem.

Alisia and Lucien, surrounded by tragedy and betrayal, must join together if they are to save their people. But first, they must save their growing love before it unravels and drives them into madness.

Interesting facts about this novel:

This book was born as a short story called Salvation. It featured a human girl, Emily, who is incapacitated in a car accident. Lucien appears to her and offers to heal her for a price: that she become his vampire mate.

I wrote the first draft for National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) in 2005.

Alisia's original name was Emily. Then I changed it to Alisia, after hearing the name on one of my favorite TV shows. It's pronounced A-LEE-SEE-A.

Lucien, in the first draft, was a doctor.

Its theme song is Walk in the Shadows by Queensryche.

Soulfire

Genre: Science Fantasy

Status: Planning for Nanowrimo 2009

Synopsis: In a world where creativity is considered insanity, a modern-day Muse must keep creativity alive by working against the doctors of the New Regime. They will stop at nothing to completely eradicate creativity in all its forms. But when she meets Brian, the enigmatic leader of the Enclave, all bets are off. She finds herself falling for him, even though it's forbidden for Muses and mortals to be together. If that's not bad enough, Liana must also help Brian fight the Dark Muse who's been pursuing him through time. The Dark Muse wants to fuel the darkest, most disturbing creativity ever -- and enslave him to her will for an eternity. When Liana is captured and her magic blocked, Brian must save her before it's too late. If the Dark Muse doesn't destroy his mind completely in the process.

Interesting facts about this novel:

This book has been in the planning stages for about 2 years. The original idea came to me after reading about the leanan sidhe, a dark faerie muse. It was to be a series about 7 sisters looking for their "soul's fire." But being the twisted person I am, I changed it up a bit to feature a dystopic future Earth. What can I say? I have to dark mind.

The idea for the New Regime and eradicating creativity came from one question I asked myself one morning: what would this world be like without creativity? Being a writer and photographer, I couldn't even comprehend it, but I was compelled to explore the idea in my writing.

This book has been plotted twice. Liana and Brian have always had their names from the very beginning.

The theme song is Baba O'Riley by The Who (hence the earworm!)
